Service

Interact programme

Lilyfontein has a big heart and we actively serve both our community and other NPO’s and organisations that are in need.

Our Interact Club was chartered in 2003.  The Interact Motto: Service Above Self, aligns well with the school’s motto: Servamus.

To be eligible for membership a person must possess good character and leadership potential and be a young person between the ages of 14 and 18 years of age.

The goals of interact

  • To recognise and develop constructive leadership and personal integrity.
  • To encourage and practice thoughtfulness of and helpfulness to others.
  • To create awareness of the importance of home and family.
  • To build respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual.
  • To emphasise acceptance of individual responsibility as the basis of personal success, community improvement, and group achievement.
  • To recognise the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve society.
  • To provide opportunities for gaining increased knowledge and understanding of community, national and world affairs.
  • To open avenues of personal and group action leading to the advancement of international understanding and goodwill toward all peoples.

Rotary short-term exchange programme

Lilyfontein learners have the opportunity to take part in the Rotary Short-Term Exchange Programme, a six-week cultural exchange with Rotary clubs in countries such as Germany and Italy. This experience allows learners to broaden their horizons, develop independence, and build international friendships. In return, we host exchange students at Lilyfontein, enriching our school community with new perspectives and shared learning.

Rotary Long-term exchange programme

The Rotary Long-Term Exchange Programme offers learners a life-changing opportunity to spend a full academic year studying abroad. Hosted by a Rotary family and attending a local school, learners immerse themselves in a new culture, develop global awareness, and grow personally and academically. This exchange fosters maturity, confidence, and a deep appreciation for international connection and understanding. Lilyfontein is most often a recipient of international students, however some Lilyfontein learners have also been able to participate in this exchange.

Our charities

Each year the Interact Committee identifies a small selection of charities which it will support. These are some of our recent or ongoing charities:

  • Baby and Child Care Facilities
    • Canaan Care Centre for babies and children who are physically and mentally challenged are taken care of.
    • Guardians of Hope. A home for abandoned babies.
    • Choc. We go to Frere Hospital and visit the children who suffer with life threatening disease.
  • Elderly Care
    • Collection of goodies for old age homes in need
  • Animal Care
    • PetPals and SPCA. Both providing essential support to stray, abused and abandoned animals.
  • National Initiatives
    • Reach for a Dream: We support this as a school with money raised with slipper day.
    • St Bernard’s Hospice: We supported the ‘copper drive’ as a school
    • Bread Clips: The collection of bread clips is ongoing. For every 10 000 bread tags handed in one wheelchair will be handed over to someone in need of one.
    • Jersey Week: This is supported by the whole school and bags of warm clothes were handed over.
    • Blood Clinics: Our Peer Promoters run the blood clinics each term and in this way our school contributes to helping to put a stop to the ever-growing shortage of available blood. It would be wonderful if parents made use of this opportunity to also donate.

FIRST AID

Lilyfontein is proud to qualify learners and educators each year in First Aid level 1 to 3.  We feel this is a fantastic life skill to offer our learners, who on successful completion of their training, volunteer to be first aiders at the derby days and sporting events which we host throughout the year. Training takes place twice a year by our preferred service provider, Alderson Ambulances.

In addition, Alderson Ambulances also offer workshops to some of our younger learners and our ground staff, ensuring that a basic, age-appropriate knowledge of first aid is available to everyone.
