Dear Parents / Guardians,

Welcome back to the fourth and final term of 2018.  We trust you all had a good rest and enjoyed your holiday's.  Please take note of the following.

A letter of invitation with a reply slip, will be sent home with your child today, Friday, 12 October. High School Prize Giving will take place in the School Hall on Tuesday, 16 October 2018 at 18H30, to be seated by 18H20. Learners are reminded that full winter uniform must be worn with tie and blazer.


The Valedictory assembly will take place in our School Hall on Wednesday, 17 October 2018 at 10H30.

We have 10 days left to collect as many FutureLife boxes and bread bags. Why? Because we can win R20 000 cash and the pupil who collects the most packaging will win R2500 cash.

The South African Council for English Education has sent confirmation of the overall results. Prizes are only awarded in the Gr 4-7 and Gr 8-11 Language Challenges. 56 schools entered the Grade 4-7 challenge and 26 schools entered the Gr 8-11 challenge.
We are proud to announce that:
- Shelby van Tonder achieved second place in Grade 6 (out of 3269 learners) 
- Adon Parker attained first place in Grade 10 (out of 1804 learners).
Special mention was made of Adon Parker who was also a prize winner in 2017. Congratulations.

DEBATING: The World Scholar's Cup

These students listed above earned their berths at this final World Scholar’s Cup event of the year through superior performance at the Durban Mini-Global Round, held in South Africa on 1-4 October. They are among the highest-achieving of over 30,000 scholars who have competed in rigorous academic challenges at 120 regional events in over 60 countries. They have been invited to the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions at Yale University on November 16-21, 2018.

Adon Parker, Daniel du Plessis and Aiden Young (A team) debated against Merrifield A on Wednesday,13 February and won their debate.
Adon Parker was Best Speaker. Sethu Jikwa and Iman Mciteka adjudicated.

Unfortunately, our B team: Yonda Nonyathi, Liyabona Mlungwana and Bonolo Ramela, lost their debate against Clarendon B’s, but they gained from the vigorous debate. WELL DONE!

Congratulations to Teo Bosazza and Ej Mollentze for being selected to go to Cape Town for the National XCO MTBike competition as part of the Eastern Cape MTB team. We wish them all the best of luck.
