Dear Parents

Farewell
6 December 2017
As a school community, we would like to wish the following staff members well for the future as they pursue their different paths in life: Mrs Jenny Rawstron; Mrs Clarissa Fisher; Mr May; Mrs Nel; Ms Vlok; Mr Friend; Ms Macallister; Ms Angelbeck and Mr Harding. We would like to thank each one of them for their contribution to Lilyfontein – we are going to miss each one of them!

Start of First Term

The start of the new school year for 2018 will be on Wednesday, 17 January 2018.
Pre-Primary
Times: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (17, 18 and 19 January) school will start at 7:30 and end at 11:00. From Monday, 22 January,
Pre-Primary will end at 12:00 each day.

Foundation Phase:
Grade 1 = 7:30 – 12:10 (17 – 26 January). From 29 January 7:30 - 13:10 each day
Grade 2 & 3 = 7:30 – 13:20

Grade 4 – 12:
The school day will begin at 7:30 each day and end at 14:10 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (17, 18 & 19 January).

Buses
Buses will leave as follows for the first week of term :

  • Wednesday to Friday, 17th – 19th January = 14:20
  • From Monday, 22 January - Buses will leave each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 16:10 and on Fridays at 14:20.

Extra Murals
Sport practices will begin on Monday, 22 January 2018 and will end at 16:00 Monday to Thursday each week.

Parent Meeting Grade 0 – Grade 12
All parents are invited to attend an information evening on Tuesday, 23 January 2018 in our School Hall. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served from 17:15 and the meeting will start at 17:45. After the address in the Hall, parents will go to their child’s classroom to be informed about the expectations for the year.

Hostel Pupils
ALL hostel pupils must arrive at hostel dressed in full school uniform at 16:00 on Tuesday, 16 January 2018.
Hostel Fees
ALL hostel fees must be paid on or before the day of your child’s entry into the hostel. No child will be allowed to stay at the hostel without proof of payment being presented on the day.

Lynx Magazine
Each family will receive one copy of the magazine with the reports.

BUCO Tomato Trot & Cycle – 3 February 2018
Entries are open. Enter online at www.roag.co.za or alternatively, you can enter at Sportsman’s Warehouse. For more details navigate to www.lilyfontein.co.za and click on the Tomato Trot image.
Please save the date and make every effort to be involved. If you are not taking part in the running or cycling, we would appreciate your help with marshalling, food and beer tents. This is the year’s major fundraiser for the school. Let’s all work together to make our school even better! Look out for the reply slip on the first day of next term.

Extra Time Application
Applications need to be made by 24 January 2018. Forms are available from the front office and must include a Scholastic Assessment not older than 3 years. Please note learners need to reapply for each phase.

Uniforms
Please ensure that your child is correctly dressed for school next year.
PLEASE NOTE:
* Please ensure that your child returns to school next year with their own natural coloured hair in a neat style. No extensions may be
worn. Own hair may be braided.
* Our school tracksuit forms part of our winter uniform and tracksuit pants may not be worn without the tracksuit top.
* Official Lilyfontein socks must be worn with ‘mid-week’ uniform.
* Only predominantly white tackies with a navy trim are allowed.
* Any contravention of our dress code will mean a parent being asked to return to school to correct the dress or hair fault.

School Shop
Please note that our school shop will open on Monday and Tuesday, 15 & 16 January from 08:00 – 10:00 and then each Monday to Thursday from 7:30 – 8:00.

PTA
We would like to take this opportunity of thanking the PTA Committee for all their hard and dedicated work during the past year.
Please note that there will be a PTA meeting early in the new term (date to be confirmed in the new year) where a new PTA Committee will be elected. It will be great to welcome ‘new blood’ onto this Committee. All interested parents are welcome to attend. Please complete the reply slip to indicate your availability to serve on the PTA.

Music Lessons
Please note that individual music lessons (piano/guitar/recorder) will start on Monday, 22 January. If your child is starting recorder / guitar lessons, please ensure that they have the instrument and files as requested.

Grade 8 Orientation Meeting
Grade 8 parents are requested to please take note of the letter sent home with the reports regarding Grade 8 Orientation Meeting on Tuesday, 16 January 2018.

Leaders' Meeting and Induction Ceremonies
Senior Leaders Induction
• Will be held on Friday, 19 January 2018 at 09:10.
• Invitations to parents will follow.
Junior Leaders Induction
• Will be held on Friday, 19 January 2018 at 07:45.
• Invitations to parents will follow.
• Junior Leaders Camp will be held from Friday, 2 March to Saturday, 3 March 2018.

Junior Leaders' Meeting
The 2018 Junior Leaders need to be at school on Tuesday, 16 January from 7:30 to 12:00 for an important meeting and duties. They need to be dressed in their informal summer uniform.

Nurdle Competition
Nurdles are microplastic pellets about the size of a pea that are used to manufacture plastic products. There has been a nurdle spill and the South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) has sent out an urgent appeal for beach users to try and assist in collecting as many of these nurdles as possible to try to minimise the damage caused and to assist with essential microplastic research.
Please take 10 minutes of your beach time to collect the horrible nurdles and save them in a jar. The child with the most nurdles at the start of next term will win a prize and all nurdles collected will be handed in to the Aquarium for research.

Foundation Phase Aftercare 2018
Foundation Phase Aftercare will be offering the option of Aftercare until 17:00 as a trial period in the first term 2018.
The hours available will be:
Mon - Thurs : 13:00 - 16:00 OR 13:00 to 17:00
Fri: 13:00 - 14:30.

In Conclusion
I wish to thank our Lilyfontein staff most sincerely for their hard work throughout the past term. We are truly fortunate to have such a committed team at this school and I would appeal to you as parents to continue to support them during these most challenging times of change, as we try to uphold positive values at Lilyfontein. Good luck to our Matrics on their results which ought to be released earlyJanuary.

We wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. For those who are travelling, please travel safely. Enjoy the holidays!
