Dear Parents

Please take note of the following:

School Times Friday, 1 September 2017
Please be advised that school will close at 12:10 next week Friday to accommodate our Adventure Race preparations. Buses will therefore leave school at 12:15. Kindly make the necessary arrangements.
High School Class and Sport Photographs will be taken on Tuesday, 29 August 2017. Please ensure that your child is neat and tidy and has the correct dress for photographs. All High School learners MUST attend school in formal uniform on Tuesday, 29 August.
According to the SA Schools’ Act, 3 p 6(a) & (b), compulsory attendance by law must be ensured by parents.  If this cannot be done due to illness, a doctor’s certificate is required.  If by lack of transport or other, an appeal showing attempts to solve the problem must be lodged with the school.  Failing this, the parents will be held liable according to Part 6 of the Compulsory School Attendance Section of the SA Schools’ Act.
(a) Any parent who, without just cause and after a written notice from the Head of Department, fails to comply with subsection (1), is guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months; or
(b)Any other person who, without just cause, prevents a learner who is subject to compulsory attendance from attending a school, is guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months.

Please take note of (b) above, as schools are expected to closely monitor learner attendance.

Procedure when contacting educators
When you need to contact an educator, please observe the following procedures:
• Please phone the school to make an appointment with the relevant educator.
• Discuss the problem, find a way forward and determine a time when educator / parent will meet for feedback on the application of decisions.
• Unless in an extreme emergency, please avoid contacting the educators at home.
• Please avoid making contact with educators while they are actually busy coaching or supervising learners.
Parents are requested to execute the courtesy of making appointments through the front office to see teachers and not go directly to the classrooms, again for the purpose of the safety of all on campus.
Interact Council Announced at Induction Dinner
Congratulations to the following learners on their positions on the Interact Council:
President: Matthew Barnard
Vice-President: Jordan Ekron
Secretary: Jaydee Nicholson
Treasurer: Melissa Hayward
Portfolio holders: Nicola Swart, Courtney Hayward, Cameron Mitchell, Mattheus van der Walt and Curtis Kleinhans
We wish them good luck for the year ahead and thank Megan Swart and her outgoing council for their hard work.
Gratitude Assembly: 25 August 2017
Thank you to all learners and parents for their contributions to the Gratitude Assembly Thank You Hampers. The Lilyfontein Family once again demonstrates its generosity!
Sunflower Day: 15 September
Buy a Tope for R25 from Pick n Pay or online from Zando and help us give the hope of life to patients suffering from blood disorders such as Leukemia. We will photograph our learners wearing the topes in unusual ways on Friday, 15 September and submit them for a competition in which we could win up to R20 000,00. Get together with your class reps and let's get creative! There are prizes for the school with the biggest percentage of their learners that wear a tope on that day so please do your part to help Lilyfontein School's fundraising effort.
Adventure Race: Entries & Spectator ticket sales close on Monday
