The Foundation Phase comprises two classes in each grade from Grade 1 to Grade 3. Our classrooms lead onto the playground where mini games of rugby, soccer and cricket, tennis and creative games involving the wendy house, jungle gyms and boat are played enthusiastically during free time.
Academically, our Literacy, Numeracy and Life Orientation programme (Department of Education) is supplemented by Permaculture, Art, Physical Education, Music and Computer skills. Being an Eco School we incorporate environment themes and study flora and fauna in our area.
The highlight for many learners is the ‘Adventure Day’ once a term. Campouts, paddling, orienteering, group dynamics, cycling and individual challenges such as the climbing wall are part of this exciting programme.
Our extra-mural programme includes Swimming, Mini-Cricket, hard ball Cricket, Tennis, Drummies, Netball, Rugby and Adventure sport e.g. Cycling, dam swimming and Obstacle Courses. We have a Foundation Phase Band and Choir and individuals also practice the recorder.
Paddling, Drama, Karate, Swimming and Tennis are also offered privately by professional coaches.
The privilege of having smaller classes than many schools in town allows the teachers to spend more time with each learner. Learner support is available on the premises.
All learners are recognised for their achievement throughout the year at our prize giving in December and a concert is held every second year in which all Foundation Phase learners participate
Learner support is provided one afternoon per week.
